Video Editing [LearningReport]

What is Video Editing?

Video editing is the process of manipulating recorded video footage. While all actual video editing activities are completed post-production, not all post-production operations (like CGI and sound design) fall under the video editing category.

Video editing dates back to analogue recording practices. To be done manually, film reels required editing, such as cutting the film and pasting it back together to add or remove frames. Today, most video is recorded digitally and can thus be edited using video editing software. Analogue forms of video editing are considered linear, whereas digital video editing is considered nonlinear.

Video editing functions

Most final versions of video recordings have undergone some editing. Much like raw photography, raw footage usually needs refinement, whether simple colour correction and cropping or more advanced editing across multiple camera angles and takes. Standard video editing functions include:

  • Colour correction
  • Exposure adjustment
  • Blurring
  • Frame cropping
  • Trimming
  • Re-sequencing
  • Cross dissolving
  • Cut-aways
  • Fade in/fade out

Examples of video editing software

Professional and amateur video editors rely on software to help them create a finished product. The rise of mobile technology means that many software programs are accessible from smartphones and tablets to high-performing laptops and desktops. Similarly, some software requires a local download, and other programs are available as Internet-based cloud services. Some major video editing software:

  • Adobe Premiere Pro
  • Adobe Premiere Rush
  • Apple Final Cut Pro
  • Apple iMovie
  • Windows Movie Maker
  • Avid Media Composer
  • Davinci Resolve

Practical Case of Study in the course ICT-A4B2

ICT-A4B2 is a brief name of ICT Applications for Business 2, the last information and communications technology course of my study program, Multilingual Management Assistants (Old Study Guides 2018 – 2019) Haaga-Helia. I studied this course in the spring of 2021. It includes all the tasks and assignments related to business, information, and technology. I learned about SEO (search engine optimization). I learned to create a website (WordPress is the case of practice) and image and video editing using Abode Spark. I prepared for Webinars with a virtual presentation about Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligent (work in pairs).

There are 3 assignments for creating videos with optional subjects on 3 levels. They are had to be uploaded on YouTube (public or private). Ideally, they don’t need to be perfect as an IT man or a video editor, cover all the conditions of what we were taught, and progress from video after video can touch a high grade. Please check out my assignments and some extra Audio-books videos from my YouTube channel, Be Bold Harmony, here:

Learning outcomes

I appreciate this course so much that it is a whole package that I wish to have a chance to learn earlier. Luckily, Haaga-Helia had changed the course content regarding the Covid-19, which is a bit different from the original one I was supposed to study last winter.

Of course, when we talk about self-taught, it is not the case to worry if we have a satisfying foundation of ICT skills to do the search and practice to enhance ourselves. I said that nothing is impossible with the non-stop development of technology in this flat world. People have plenty of chances to go further than general education traditionally.

I feel blessed because this study package can fulfil my skills and desires and provide me with enhanced levels in editing images, creating videos and websites or writing blogs. Now I do not need to search to get free photos from the internet because I can create any photo on any topic I want with a personal logo and brand’s name.

Even in advanced level

I learned such huge things that it blew my mind far from the course requirement itself. I am going from this platform to another to know more, do more and achieve more.

Let me brief it a little bit!

Because I know the copyright for all the pictures, videos, and internet, I like writing a blog and creating a personal website. I want it to look well enough with a comprehensive look that includes images, videos, logo, brand’s name, etc. I love books and reading, but I am not addicted to books. I usually read a book repeatedly to see it from a different aspect of my personal life experience. I want to see myself from various perspectives when reading the same book at different times. And because I want to use English at a native level, audiobooks, English books, traditional reading with a book in my hands etc., are my desires. So YouTube Channel and a Personal Website are the solutions; I have gone beyond the bricks road of my inner obstacles!

Thanks for reading!
