- If you are a video creator and you want to make money online, joining the YouTube Partner Program (YPP) is one of the best ways to do it.
- Think you’re ready to join the YPP and start building a career on YouTube? Here’s a complete guide to bring you one step closer to applying.
What is YouTube Partner Program?
The YouTube Partner Program (YPP) gives creators greater access to YouTube resources and features like direct access to the Creator Support team. On a basic level, the program lets creators monetize their content with advertisements, and in turn, they earn a profit as solid as their work ethic and effort.
YouTube and its creators are part of a revenue-sharing model that helps both parties stay in business. The revenue is split between YouTube and the Creator when they enable ads and viewers watch those ads. The creator receives 55% while YouTube takes the remaining 45%.
Minimum Requirements to Apply
The YouTube channel monetization policies are a collection of policies that allow you to monetize on YouTube. As a YouTube partner, your agreement including the YouTube partner program policies requires compliance with these monetization policies to potentially earn money on YouTube.
Before you can apply to the YPP, you need to accomplish two important goals on your YouTube channel within 12 months:
- Have 1000 Subscribers
- Have 4000 Public Watch Hours
Starting the 1st November 2021, monetizing creators must turn on 2-Step Verification on the Google Account used for their YouTube channel to access YouTube Studio or YouTube Studio Content Manager. Learn more. Besides, there are some more requirements:
- Follow all the YouTube channel monetization policies.
- Live in a country/region where the YouTube Partner Program is available.
- Have no active Community Guidelines strikes on your channel.
- Have a linked AdSense account.
How to Apply to the YouTube Partner Program?
Everyone who meets the threshold can apply for YPP, but you do need to meet some of the guidelines to be considered. This checklist is meant to guide you through the application process.
- 2-Step Verification is turned on
- Follows the policies and guidelines and you don’t have any active Community Guidelines Strikes on it.
- Have 1000 Subscribers and 4000 Public Watch Hours.

- Make sure you only have 1 AdSense account.
- Get reviewed.
- Review and agree to the YPP’s Terms of Service.
- Set up and connect a Google AdSense account to your channel.

Review Process
You may be wondering how long YouTube will take to review your application after applying to the YPP. The official answer from the Support page is about one month. However, plenty of creators have been accepted before then, so keep checking your email. In my experience in monetizing the channel, Be Bold Harmony, YouTube reviewed my application in less than 80 hours, which I wasn’t expecting.
- Note:
- A human reviewer will assess your channel as a whole to check whether your account meets YouTube channel monetization policies.
- They’ll get back to you with a decision once your channel is reviewed (typically about 1 month after you meet the threshold).
- Sometimes, you may need to wait more than a month. There can be multiple reasons for delays — higher-than-usual application volumes, system issues, or they may occasionally need to shift resources. The policy specialists try to get through applications as fast as possible, but delays can happen because they have a limited number of specialists.
- Can you speed up my application?
- No. The teams can’t speed up your application. All applications are put in a queue, and will be processed in the order they’re received.
- Sometimes channels require multiple reviews, especially when multiple reviewers disagree on your channel’s suitability for YPP. In these cases, multiple reviews may be needed, which means it may take more time for a decision to be made.
Stay active to keep making money!
Once you sign the YouTube Partner Program terms and connect an AdSense account, your channel will automatically be put in a review queue.
The automated systems and human reviewers will then review your channel’s content to check whether your account has followed all of our guidelines.
You can check your application status anytime at https://studio.youtube.com/channel/UC/monetization.

- Congratulations if you are accepted into YPP! You can now set up ad preferences and enable monetization on your uploads. Here’s a list of FAQs.
- If you are rejected from YPP, the reviewers found that a significant portion of your channel doesn’t meet their policies and guidelines. Don’t give up! You can always re-apply 30 days after your rejection.
- It is important to maintain a healthy, active ecosystem of channels. To focus support on creators who are active and engaged with the community, YouTube may disable monetization on channels that haven’t uploaded a video or posted to the Community tab for 6 months or more.
