How I apply Committing to Consistency in developing my YouTube channel

Starting to apply an entrepreneurial mindset, I shape many things and feel everything I do related to my YouTube channel more clearly and effectively. I see gaps in my knowledge and know my strengths and weaknesses to find ways to strengthen them.

Most importantly, I am committed to the process and progress to continue learning and creating. Those give me confidence when making videos and practicing presentations in front of the camera. In addition, I practice my voice and how to attract attention in each video. As a result, I became more interested in honing my video-making skills, and my creative ideas increased.

Cannell and Travis (2022, 115) stated, “The key to consistency on YouTube is just to show up.” There are four crucial reasons for that. First, the more consistent video we post, the more audiences we get. Second, we learn more about the platform and change the YT algorithm when posting videos. Third, by showing up consistently, we can get regular audience feedback that helps improve the video content. Fourth, practicing makes progress; the more video we film and produce, the better we are at the camera and our editing skills. All these reasons can pull us through the feeling overwhelmed among thousand things we must learn and figure out.

Cannell and Travis also mentioned (2022, 120) the common question of how consistent we must be and how often we should upload to YouTube. The most straightforward answer is, “As often as we can.” And it depends on how busy our life is and how challenging things we have then. But they do recommend a minimum of at least once a week. Importantly, it is better to post a weekly video for fifty-two weeks and stay consistent than to upload fifty-two videos in the first month and only sporadically afterward.

They recommend those things, but the reality is that besides growing my YT channel and committing to consistency, I’ve always been overloaded over the past year between studying, taking care of children, caring for my family, doing research, and writing the thesis. Therefore, I cannot guarantee the maintenance of video creation every week, and I didn’t stereotype myself as having to upload videos every week, either. Still, I commit to producing videos monthly, ideally two videos per month. Then I take as much of my free time as possible to brainstorm and shoot a video every week, using them for editing, cutting, and combining to produce a complete video within 2-3 days.

In parallel, I have a few audiobook projects; it’s simple and takes less time for ideas and video production. And I use it to increase the volume of work and ensure consistency when I’m too busy to make videos with big ideas and need a lot of time to practice in front of the camera.

Video published vs. estimated revenue from 11.2021 to 10.2022

Back to the primary goal of this thesis is that I want to develop my YT channel to generate income and, at the same time, balance the related costs. And after successfully registering for the partner program in October 2021, my YT channel has revenue. The picture above illustrates two parameters per week and one year from the beginning of November 2021 to October 31, 2022. The purple line represents the number of videos posted, and the green line shows the estimated revenue. I did not focus too much on studying and writing my thesis during the first six months, from November 2021 to the end of April 2022.

During this time, I focused on trying to maintain the weekly video posting schedule as much and as often as possible. I was very interested in video production, improving my editing skills, and learning about YouTube at that time. And six months later, the number of published videos decreased when I started focusing on my studies and collecting materials to write my thesis.

Interestingly, the estimated revenue increases significantly when I upload many videos in the first six months. However, it didn’t stop there; I posted fewer videos six months later, and the lower but average estimated weekly payment steadily continued. This reinforces what it means to be committed to consistency, and it relates to what it means to be passive income on YouTube and search engine optimization, which I will cover in another article.

This characteristic includes a commitment to growth and success when I commit to consistency to grow my YT channel. In addition, it provides persistence to achieve a specific goal that I establish based on the plans to expand. Because of this characteristic, I enhanced my imagination, curiosity, creativity, and video production skills. Also, it makes me a little more ambitious and hungrier for success than before.

So, there is no rush at the beginning; instead, I keep those two videos a month in mind. Brainstorm for the idea, prepare the content, practice in front camera, edit the video, and learn how to hook the audience in the first thirty seconds. Then, commit to the process and progress of producing monthly videos with one percent better for the following. That is how I conduct the top committing consistency in developing a YouTube channel.
